Condems Live
Up to Their Name
The ConDems have announced more cuts in the benefits payments,
not only are they targeting the poor, they are now hitting “middle
England”. To make it fair
government, they are protecting the high earners from these
cuts.
Families with one parent working paying the highest rate of
tax [currently the threshold is £43,876], will lose their
child benefit. Next year, the tax threshold will fall to £42,375,
and as low as £39,000 in 2013. Meaning more and more will
lose out.
Of course families with two earners just below the higher rate
tax level, will be able to jointly earn £84,000 p.a. and
still be able to claim chid benefit.
This is considered fair government by the Condems,
however the Conservative M.P.s , and Ministers at their party
conference, showed their disapproval at not being told in advance
about the proposed cuts. You get the impression from the P.M.’s
remarks “that this was fair”,
even he didn’t know about it.
It is just another one of those crazy ideas the Condems think
up and announce then wonder what to do. They suggested as a
last minute compromise to appease their party that they would
allow couples to transfer their tax allowance to the partner
who is working. Labour stopped this scheme because it was unworkable.
For those people on
minimum wages, £84,000 per year equals over £1,615
per week, that’s almost 8 weeks wages if you are on minimum
wage. You have to feel sorry
for these rich people don’t you, especially MPs who have
all these long breaks from Westminster to think up hare-brained
schemes.
The conservatives during the election, pledged to keep Child
Benefits, but nobody believes what the conservatives say.
David Cameron said at one of his Cameron Direct sessions
in Bolton: “I wouldn’t change child benefit, I wouldn’t
means test it, I don’t think that is a good idea”.
And at the party conference last year, his chancellor also affirmed
he wouldn’t mess with it: “We
will preserve child benefit, winter fuel payments and free TV
licences. They are valued by millions.”
All these services are being cut
in the name of Fair government. This is in addition
to the reduction announced for the ceiling for those claiming
tax benefits.
In May of this year the ConDems
issued a PDF document, in which the Prime Minister, David Cameron,
and the deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg both signed saying
: “We will guarantee
that health spending increases in real terms in each year of
the Parliament, while recognising the impact this decision will
have on other departments”. Under Labour
the budget for the NHS was growing at 6% real terms after inflation
was factored in. The Condems also promised to ‘ring fence
the NHS’ and protect the budget.
Unfortunately the budget is being cut.
The ConDems call this Fair Government.

the PDF.
They also promised to protect frontline services. Most care
services have been cut by 15% with another 30% cut to come.
As the care homes are being closed, there are increasingly less
spaces available for old people to go. According to a recent
news broadcast, old people in some care homes are being denied
basic medical treatment.
