The Conservative led coalition has created an
aura of dismay and disarray, because they are too arrogant to
admit they got it wrong, with the economy.
A group of 20 leading economist sent a letter
to the Observer, criticising the coalition for their "breakneck
deficit-reduction plan" describing it as "self-defeating".
They also suggested that the coalition should switch to plan ‘B’.
The Guardian said that Cameron and Osborne have shattered business
and consumer confidence with their heavy-handed approach to reining
in the national debt. And that they were like a herd of bulls
in a china shop smashing
the recovery to smithereens.
The coalition in a weak response, said that they had cut taxes
to generate growth, [they raised the tax threshold, then raised
VAT to wipe out the tax cuts] They also claimed to have created
400,000 jobs, but we have more unemployed than when they came
to power. They claim people have more money to spend which will
kick - start the economy, the average family is £900 worse
off this year than last due to inflation, and VAT increase.
They claim the O.E.C.D. approves of their handling of the economy,
in actual fact their chief economist Pier
Carlo Padoan told The Times newspaper that the pace of cuts would
have to be slowed if economic growth figures continued to be disappointing.
Zero growth is quite disappointing. The coalition also
claim the IMF approved the measures they were taking. The IMF
also stood by and did nothing as the world went into recession.
The IMF made a statement today choreographed by the Treasury,
in which they broadly said the ConDems were on the right path,
although growth was very low, inflation was high, prompting them
to downgrade their growth forecast to a pathetic 1.5%. for this
year. They did add that it could be necessary
to implement temporary tax cuts. The Condems response was that
we are only 3 months into the cuts; the plan is for another 4
painful years of cuts.
The Office of Budget Responsibility warned
against the measures the ConDems were taking. The G20 played
lip service to their cuts; the attitude was that if the
Condems didn’t know what they were doing, it wasn’t
up to the rest of the world to tell them otherwise. Obama
told Cameron he was going too fast and too deep with the cuts.
The Condems claim to have cut immigration from 142,000 to 280,000
which is not really a cut, more an increase.
Vince cable was invited to address the GMB conference, instead
of outlining measures to help the working man, he
simple threatened congress that if strikes took place, which damaged
the economy, there would be a change in the law to clamp down
on strikes. The condems can take jobs away from people
and damage the economy, there is no law against that. They can
make cuts to welfare, to care for the elderly, to removing the
heating allowance for the elderly, if they die of hypothermia,
there will be no change in the law. Tory back benchers are pushing
for restricting the powers of the unions, and of the working man,
there is no law against that.
Vince cable has lost any credibility he had; he is now just a
puppet on a string for Cameron and Osborne. The chances of him
joining the Lib Dem splinter group this summer have all but disappeared.
His post in the coalition is worth more to him than his honour,
his beliefs, his electorate, and his party. What a disgrace!
