The ConDems have announced reforms to
the welfare payments system, as part of their Get to work, and
work harder schemes they have announced with a great deal of
publicity some of their latest ideas. To encourage people to
work longer hours, they have said they will be able to keep
35p of their benefits for every extra £1 they earn. It
took this government, albeit a fragmented mis-match of millionaires,
six months to come up with this revolutionary idea, unfortunately
the previous Labour government have been running the same scheme
for many years, it is called ‘Working Family tax Credit’
WELL DONE CONDEMS!
We saw on T.V. one young lady, interviewed in her workplace,
who was working 16 hours a week, and claiming benefits. She
said that she would love to better herself by earning more money.
But the extra 35p, of every extra £1 she earned which
the Condems would help her with, wouldn’t cover the cost
of extra childminding care, and the loss of Housing benefits,
Poll tax reduction would be catastrophic for her family. I am
not an economist, but for every extra £1 you earn, you
pay tax and N.I. contributions, so the extra 35p will probably
work out at 15p, I guess! But don’t quote me on that.
No doubt somebody will work out how much extra the young lady
would have to earn, to be able to live, or even to better herself.
The pension increases for every pensioner to have £120
per week announced last week, has now been scaled down to £90
for a single pensioner, and £152 for a couple by the end
of this parliament. But lets face it the pensioners didn’t
believe what the ConDems announced, or did they? Now the pensioners
might not be your priority now, they paid their N.I. contributions
for their pension and the N.H.S. They get a pittance to live
on, with virtually all their money going on food and heating.
Inflation is hitting them hard, as will the increase in V.A.T
and gas coming to us all very shortly. You will have seen on
television the disgusting way pensioners are treated, or not
treated in hospitals. Well that is what
you have to look forward to!!!!
ConDems Reintroduce Forced Labour.
The Condems have announced that people not working would be
forced to do community work, street cleaning was one example
used. [They had previously announced that prisoners would be
forced to work: they dropped this idea when they were told prisoners
are already forced to work] People claiming incapacity benefits
also fall into this category.
One ConDem spokesman denied on the Politics Show, [07-1-10]
that they were treating people like prisoners, and forcing them
to work as “a chain gang” on the streets. They did
say they were forcing these people to work, street cleaning
etc. for their own good.[To get them used to work], but they
would be paid about £1.60 an hour. [Is
this the new minimum wage?] If they are late for forced
work, or don’t turn up because of a job interview, they
will loose all benefits for a month. Do it twice and you lose
2 months benefits, slip up a third time and you lose benefits
for 3 years.
The ConDems are expected to lead by example, if they are late
for work in Parliament or in their Constituency, or don’t
turn up, they will loose a months pay! I don’t think so!!!
Have you heard the phrase” Do
as I say, Not as I do?”
If they force 750,000 people a month to work, every month, and
gradually increase the figure to 1million, the jobless totals
will miraculously fall dramatically. Of course the local authorities
will have to sack street cleaners; gardeners, office staff,
cleaners etc to be able to cope with the free forced labour,
so that will save them money, but increase the jobless total.
But the good side is that these sacked workers could be forced
back into their old jobs at a salary of, well, £60 per
week for four weeks. All in all a badly thought out hair-brained
idea. As it is classed as work, and being paid by the Government,
the ConDems will have to abide by the laws of the land, ie insurance
for their forced staff, statutory sick pay, protective clothing,
meal breaks etc. health and safety regulations. The legal costs
of fighting the thousands of claims under the minimum wages
act would make the scheme counter productive, not to mention
claims under the human rights act. Would the local authorities
be liable as well, by partnering with the government? The
Condems have obviously thought this through. Forced Labour or
Starvation –Your Choice.
Job Seekers
As I reported in my blog on the 25 October ‘Budget-
is it Fair’ Job Seekers are those people who chase
the elusive imaginary jobs. George Osborne stated that in the
last quarter figures are available, June to August that 178,000
jobs were created. What he doesn’t say is that 143,000
were only part time jobs, which leaves 35,000 full time jobs
created. Well Done the ConDems.
To try to massage the figures even more, the ConDems have put
forward this fantastic idea. If you manage to find a job, and
you are offered it, or the Jobcentre forces you into job which
is unsuitable,[ maybe it is 200 miles away, may be you are physically
incapable,] and then you decline the job offer, you will lose
1 months benefit. That’s one month without paying your
mortgage, 1 month with out food and heating for you and your
children. If you are offered another unsuitable job, or the
same one, and again you turn it down, you will lose 2 months
benefits, if you thought starvation of your family for 1 month
was hard, follow that with a further 2 month starvation sentence,
and you can expect to have your gas, electricity and water cut
off, bailiffs repossessing what little you have left, and the
bank taking your home. If you manage to survive with your family,
and you are offered a self employed commission only job which
requires you to provide a car and all expenses for the first
month, your excuse that you turned the job down because you
had no money to finance the job, will mean your benefits will
be suspended for 3 years. Bearing in mind you and your family
have had two starvation sessions of 1 month, and then 2 months,
how do you rate your family’s chances with 3 years starvation?
Of course you might think you can rely on charities to feed,
clothe and house you. Well you probably could, but this government
has cut or removed charity grants. I suspect
the ConDems will come up with a couple of new brilliant ideas:
The workhouses and the Alms Houses, now that would show they
are Fair, wouldn’t it?
ARE YOU GLAD YOU VOTED FOR A FAIR GOVERNMENT?
