Twitter
is a great free source for promoting yourself, your company
or for starting an online business.
Twitter :: A
great source of information and news.
Twitter :: A
great place to socialise.
Twitter :: Is
addictive, profitable, and difficult to see the point of it
for beginners.
This article is written in 3 sections, one for beginners,
the second for people with few followers, and the third for
people wanting to make money with Twitter.
1 For Beginners.
Twitter has been described as a ”Mini
Blogging Platform” I think the best way to describe
it is as “An Open Text to the
world”
You can set up a personal or business Twitter account or both
here, you will
be joining 80 mill other Twitter users. You will need a username,
and an email account. The first thing you have to decide is
whether any body can read your tweets, this is what most people
do, or whether to make your tweets ‘private’.
If you wish to send tweets just to your friends, you should
click the tab to make your tweets private. For instance, if
you want to keep in touch with your old school friends, who
may be spread worldwide. Apart from customising
your twitter background easily and for free, this is all
you need to read. There are other sites for free backgrounds,
with this one, if you sign in with your twitter account, it
is only 1 simple click to upload your new background. You
might recognise one of them on one of my
twitter account .
If you want your Twitter
site to be seen by thousands of people or have a business
Twitter account, and want thousands
of targeted followers there is a little forward planning
to be done before you start.
2 Increase your followers at super speed.
Lets assume first of all you are going to have a personal
twitter account, which you can make money from, that is, you
are going to sell something using your Twitter followers as
potential customers. If you don’t have a web site to
do this, the easiest way is as an affiliate. [No
stock to buy, No website needed, no special skills, just a
Twitter account, and it can all be automated!]
There are affiliate sites for everything; Amazon was the first
company to use affiliates successfully. You are paid a commission
[or advertising rate] on the sales of people you send to your
affiliate site. You get paid on your referrals subsequent
sales, even if they by pass your twitter account and go direct
to the affiliate site. Commissions vary from a few pennies
to several hundred dollars. These are usually paid through
you pay pal account. Even if you only have one twitter account
and several affiliate accounts, you can still make money,
and your business can be run on Tweetadder,.
You can run up to 5 Twitter accounts using different usernames,
and 5 or more affiliate programs per twitter account using
the same Auto Pilot. This will give you 25 plus income streams.
You can if you wish increase this as you see the money rolling
in.
Whether or not you want to make money, the next steps are
the same. First of all set up your BIO, if uncertain about
how much to include, leave it blank for now, then post one
tweet, just assume it is a text to the world. Then you need
to find some followers: If you are thinking you may want to
monetise your tweets, consider what group of products, you
think you may want to promote. To find your followers use
Twellow, the Yellow
Pages of twitter profiles. You can now search for the category
or categories you think you want to earn money from. If you
only have less than 20 followers, or even none, follow just
10 people the first day that are in your selected categories.
Pick people with 2 to 4 thousand followers. They are using
the Tweetadder,
this will immediately trigger a follow back. The next day
follow 20 more people. Within a few days you will have 50
or so followers. At this point it is time to configure your
‘inbox.’ You will receive an email from Twitter
every time someone follows you, and possibly a direct message.
When you consider that in 2 weeks you could be getting close
to a thousand emails a week, the time to sort them is now.
You can keep the emails in two folders if you wish. Name one
folder 'twitter followers', and
the other twitter 'dms' [Direct
Messages]. Click on one of the emails notifying you have a
follower, click on the ‘Tools Tab’ the ‘Message
rules’ this should have filled out the criteria of your
message rules, you simply have to click on send to, then the
folder you have just created. You can just send them all straight
to the deleted folder, but for now they can be useful.
Now to put the Tweetadder,
to work. Use one Twitter account only, and click
the free trial. If you haven’t done
your BIO yet, see what other people have written in your selected
categories. The first 10 or 20 people you have followed have
the same interest as you, so now all you have to do is to
set the Tweetadder, to follow the followers of one the people
you first started to follow. This way you are targeting followers
who are interested in buying from you. Don’t go mad
with the follows to start with you should use a ratio of about
1.75 follows to each of your followers. [If you have 50 followers,
you follow another 87 people] It is best you use the recommended
settings on the Autopilot, and unfollow any one not following
you after 3 days. It won’t be long before you have nearly
2,000 followers.
3 Business Users
Business twitter users have a great
advantage over the majority of users. The primary focus for
a business is a 2 pronged campaign. Firstly to drive visitors
to your site, and secondly to brand your company name or,
reinforce the brand. A company has the potential to create
unlimited
Twitter accounts. Since we have been using twitter, we
have seen a marked increase in the number of targeted visitors.
The way 60% of our visitors found us was through Google, now
Twitter is sending us about the same number of visitors as
Google does, every day. Dell Computers has 100 staff doing
nothing else but send out tweets, each one uses a different
username, and the email is ‘username’ @del.com.
Does that tell you anything?
What Twitter Won’t tell you.
After a couple of weeks you can grow your twitter followers
by 400 to 500 a week. The problem is the 2,000 figure. As
you are approaching the 2,000 figure, Twitter limits the number
of Follows you can send out.[By any method] If you have for
instance 1,800 followers you can only send out a maximum of
200 follows,[The problem 2,000 figure] which if you are working
on the recommended 3 day cycle by the Tweetadder, is only
66 a day. As you get closer to the 2,000 figure it gets harder.
You can try unfollowing some followers, but this tends to
defeat the object. When you have reached the 2,000 mark Twitter
restrict the ratio of follows to followers to 1.1 which slows
down the growth for some considerable time.
Two virtually insurmountable
problems, unless you know about them early and prepare for
them.
This is where the company website can be advantageous, if
your site has a blog, you can always put the ‘Follow
Us On Twitter’ link on your site. People
who Follow you this way, DON’T expect you to follow
back.
But how about those who don’t have a website? Or who
haven’t planned for this problem?
So how do you beat the system?
Well there some sites where you can buy followers, but they
tend to be expensive, and they won’t follow for long.
You can also set the autopilot not to follow people who have
followed you on their own account. These will be the odd few
who have followed you without using a system, and won’t
realise they haven’t been followed back.
By far and away, the best way
of doing it is to publish on ‘Be
a Guest Blogger’
This system costs you nothing and can be very easy to promote,
and is self generating for collecting Twitter Follows who
don’t expect to be followed back. The more followers
you collect this way the easier it is to build your following
before and after you have gone through the 2,000 number. And
it gives you lots of external one way backlinks
The average conversion rate for follows into followers is
60% to 70%, virtually everybody in twitter expects a follow
back when they follow you, if you don’t, their Tweetadder,
will automatically unfollow you. If after you reach the 200
mark, if you aren’t getting this sort of conversion
figure, follow somebody else’s followers.
