Following
on from the shocking news that 1 in 4 UK children are living in
poverty, comes the news that unemployment has risen in the three
months to August by 110,000, now standing at 2.57 million, a 17
year high. This figure includes almost 1million young people,
the so called lost generation.
The IFS says that in 2010, 2.5 million
children and 2.1 million working-age parents were living in "absolute"
poverty.
The news that 1 in 5 children live in poverty in the UK is devastating,
the IFS expect another 600,00 children will be pushed into poverty
by the governments action during the next 2 years, in total 3.1
million children will be existing in “absolute” poverty
by 2013 , along with 2.5 million working-age parents and four
million working-age adults without children. By 2020, the IFS
is projecting there will be 4.7 million working-age adults without
children in absolute poverty.
According to a report from the Institute
for Fiscal Studies, falling incomes will mean the biggest
3 year drop for middle-income families since the 1974-77, following
the oil crisis and included a sterling crisis, with the IMF bail-out
and industrial unrest during John Major’s premiership with
the Conservatives in power.
After 2013 and the planned introduction the Universal Credit scheme,
the IFS is forecasting that absolute child poverty will fall by
100,000 to three million in 2014 and 2015.
There will also be more optimism for middle earners, with incomes
rising slowly after 2013 - although it is projected that 2015
income levels will still be below where they were six years earlier.
The prospects remain uncertain for the poorest in 2015 - with
the IFS predicting that the number of working-age adults in absolute
poverty will remain at 2.5m for parents and will rise to 4.1m
for working-age adults without children.
A
Department for Work and Pensions spokesman said benefits changes
would tackle poverty by "making work pay". Yes maybe
it will, the only problem is that the Coalition are creating higher
unemployment, to make it much more difficult to get even a low
paid job , or part time job.[Definition of JOB: Just Over Broke].
If you do get a job, beware, the coalition have altered the rules
concerning unfair dismissal, and using a tribunal. If you are
harassed, abused or bullied at work, you have to suffer it for
2 years before you can take it to a tribunal, and then you have
to pay up front fees to have your case heard. With the information
on child poverty, adult poverty, and unemployment now out in the
open, it shows how hypocritical the Conservatives were when they
published that Party Political Broadcast after the party conference
had finished, which I praised as doing more good for conservatism,
than the whole
of the conference. Just shows how easily people can be fooled.
