Students Protest
We are very busy this
time of the year, and as such I haven’t been able to devote
much time to writing, to try and put things right, a quick round
up the news, even though it is old news.
Students, Students, Students.
We all saw on television the frustrations and anger felt by
all students country wide, boiling over with a small majority
going berserk on the London march. The
police said they weren’t expecting it, but they had a
good indication of how students felt, when students tried to
hijack Jon Snow’s T.V. broadcast from Leeds Uni.
Protests and marches have never achieved anything in this country;
remember the protest marches against the
Iraq war, the poll tax revolt, the miners revolt? They didn’t
achieve anything. It is understandable that when the
ConDems gained power by promising to abolish University fees,
that students and future students may think that they had been
conned, well ask your parents how they feel about being conned
into voting the ConDems into power. Dizzy Nicky Cleggy, so named
because of the number of ‘u-turns’ he has performed
on uni fees. Firstly he was going to abolish
them, then he performed his first ‘u-turn’
to leave them at just over £3,000,
then he did another ‘u-turn and upped
them to £6,000, another ‘u-turn ‘led
him to increase the fees to £9,000. You can expect the
next ‘u-turn’ will be another
increase of £3,000 to £12,000. Now we all
know these figures are the most a university can charge, but
as the general consensus seems to be that all universities will
charge the highest fees, if they don’t they could be considered
inferior to those that do charge top fees.
Now I am approaching the proverbial 3 score years and 10, but
if I was a student, I would adopt a more modern and more productive
method of making my voice heard. When I first started using
a computer and email, we had the ‘chain- letter’
emails, which asked you to forward the email on to five friends.
It didn’t take long for the message to get round. In addition
today we have Twitter,
one tweet retweeted enough times sends it to the top of the
‘Trends’, with facebook
as well you can click the ‘like’
button and spread the word through your friends, and
of course all the other social networks. But I wouldn’t
suggest you embarrass your ConDem MP or your local MP in this
way.
In addition I would email my MP asking
if is true that they are prepared to repay the cost [at todays
rate] of their university education, which was funded by the
general public through taxes. A high proportion of the
cabinet are millionaires, courtesy of
their funded university education. I would also ask if
they thought they had gained their seats, by mis-representation
with their published manifestos. Do the ConDems feel they should
resign in the wake of the Labour MP who was forced out of parliament,
by a judge, because he allegedly won his seat by publishing
untruths about his opponent, the ConDems manifestos surely must
also be scrutinised by the same judge, that would be Fair
and open Government. Nick
Clegg didn’t consider he was part of the government,
or his party, were part of the government
when the Lib
Dems tried to claim public money, available
to the opposition parties for research.
They said it was in the public’s
interest, and Open
and Fair Government.
I could think of many other questions I could email to the cabinet
and most MPs, for instance, the proposed ‘forced
labour’ for the unemployed losing 1 months benefit
if they were late or didn’t turn up for their forced work,
should parliament lead by example, if
an MP doesn’t turn up for work he loses 1 months pay,
he does it again and he loses 2 months pay, and as the ‘forced
work’ programme suggest, the next time he loses 3 years
pay. When is parliament going to
bring in the act which will allow constituents to sack their
MP? Why should David Cameron want
to bring in a fixed term for his government, is he frightened
parliament could be dissolved through a vote of no confidence?
Why does George
Osborne ask 35 companies to approve his budget proposals,
before he announces them in Parliament? Has
he devolved all his power to these 35 companies who have a vested
interest in depressing wages?
The recent House of Lords expenses scandal reported 20 Lords
for alleged expenses fraud. Only
3 Asian lords were disciplined. Should the government be
pushing for a public enquiry?
But I am not a student, and
I certainly wouldn’t suggest you email MPs continually
to make your case heard.
The Austerity packages originally announced designed to save
£6billion have caused a lot of hardship, and will continue
to cause hardship. To make the pill a little bit harder to
swallow, the ConDems have decided to give this money to help
out the Irish Government and the Irish Banks. The reason is
because our banks, the ones we bailed out, are now making
£billions profit from our money, have invested heavily
in the Irish Banks. Our banks could if they wished forego
their bonuses, and act like any other business, and tighten
their belts, and stand their own debts. In the words of David
Cameron and Nick Clegg this is Fair Government
Just to remind you, although you never
hear about them now, The Labour
party is the Opposition Party,..... I think!
